PostSubject: Terminology   Thu Jan 07, 2010 3:26 pm

Hey guys as I am new to online battling there are a few terms I'm not familiar with...
1) I know what uber means but other than the legendaries, who or what constitutes an uber
2) References to tier?
3) And finally, what does NFE stand for
Any help is appreciated

You can learn what pokemon are placed in what tier by going on sites like smogon.
As far as uber goes, I htink the only non legendary ubers are Wynaut, Wobuffet and garchomp(although this last one is contested)
NFE, or Not Fully Evolved, is a tier that englobes all pokemon that have evolution which are *simply stronger* than the previous. What I mean is Scyther for example isnt nfe since hes a decent pokemon, and actually presents alternatives to his evolution. Caterpie and kadabra are both NFEs. Hope that helped!

There are 4 tiers excluding Uber and NFE. OU(over used) for pokemon that are very commonly used in competitive battling, UU(under used) for less commonly used pokemon for competitive battling, and NU(never used) for pokemon that are very rarely used, if ever, in competitive battling. The last tier is BL(borderline), which has a few pokemon which border on OU but are not considered OU. Hope this helps

Although there are multiple sites to reference for tiers, they may have slightly different tiers. Smogon is usually the one that everyone goes by when it comes to competitive battling. Also, in case you may not have known, not all legendaries are ubers either. Some Pokemon like Celebi, Jirachi, Phione, the birds and the dogs are not in the uber tier. So in summary, legendary does not always mean uber. I am not sure if there was a point in saying this but I figured I would throw it out there anyway. Hope that might have been at least somewhat helpful haha.
